Caring for your loved one can be rewarding, but at times you may face many challenges, such as increased stress, feeling lost, or neglecting your own needs. This website was created as part of a capstone project to highlight the realities individuals face when caring for someone with dementia and to provide resources to support caregivers on their journey.
On the CareIWD (Individuals with Dementia) Website, you will find resources, educational material, and evidence-based guidance to help navigate the dementia caregiver journey. The website consists of three modules. Module 1 offers an introduction to dementia. Module 2 provides tools for effective dementia caregiving. Module 3 focuses on self-care practices and strategies to minimize stress and enhance quality of life.
Please note that most information and resources included in the website are online-based or services only in the United States of America.
This space is dedicated to supporting you and reminding you that you are not alone.
About me
Hello, my name is Alissa Diaz, and I am pursuing a doctoral degree in occupational therapy at the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences. This website was created for my capstone project and focuses on caregivers of individuals with dementia. My hope is that everyone takes something away from this website, whether it's a better understanding of the progression of dementia or learning more about what it takes to be a caregiver!
My inspiration for focusing on caregivers of dementia comes from someone close to me. One of my best friends' grandmothers was diagnosed with dementia at the age of seventy-five, and her family shares the responsibility of providing daily care.
A few years ago, I had the privilege to spend time in their home and witness the caregiver role firsthand. Seeing the love and patience caregiving required opened my eyes to a reality I never knew about. That experience encouraged me to dive deeper into the caregiving world and create a website to support caregivers.
